Burwood Brickworks is the flagship Frasers integrated infill development in Melbourne’s east, consisting of medium density housing, apartments and a world-leading sustainable retail centre.

The first stage of apartments consists of 267 apartments in four buildings over a shared basement of two levels. The buildings are unified around a central landscaped courtyard designed by Hassell Studio.

Architect Hayball has ensured that building interfaces respond sensitively to surrounding uses.

 

A particular challenge of the project was to address the acoustic impacts of the adjoining RSPCA kennels, perceived as a potential nuisance to residents of immediately adjoining apartments. A system of angled glazed screens was developed to adequately ameliorate acoustic impacts, and the resulting building geometry was echoed elsewhere to provide design continuity.
